Why Esperanto has not become the international language
The same thing happened in Iran: Esperanto seemed like a good idea to some. But, when it was discovered that Bahá'í theology promoted (at least theoretically) the idea of Esperanto as a universal language, Esperantists became persecuted again. This is because from the perspective of orthodox Islam Bahá'í-ism is a heretical form of Islam. That's now how Bahá'í adherents see things, but it's how they're sometimes perceived in the Islamic world.
